What is CGC?

CGC is the AKC's program, "Canine Good Citizen". It is a test, that tries to indicate if a dog is well mannored. It tests for things like interactions with strangers, leash behaviour, appearance/grooming, and more.

As of 2/2006, the current test stations are

  • Accepts a Friendly Strange
  • Sits Politely for Petting
  • Appearance & Grooming
  • Out for a Walk
  • Walking Through a Crowd
  • Sit / Down / Stay
  • Coming when Called
  • Reaction to Another Dog
  • Reaction to Distractions
  • Supervised Separation
